Nothin' Like the Rockies!!

We woke up today at about 7am this morning, Eric and Tom showered, and we headed out of Boulder.

Flatirons. We miss you.

It was kinda sad to leave the first real civilization and people our age since Delaware!! Boulder was such a nice place surrounded by iconic flatiron mountain, but it was time to say goodbye!  We got some bagels at Einstein Bros. and headed out on our 9 hour journey across the Rockies.  The weather conditions on I-70 were fantastic, and Regina started our drive.

Super serious through the Loveland Pass.

Vail Pass, I-70.
The mountains were jaw-droppingly GINORMOUS! It was the most beautiful thing we've seen so far.  It was quite literally a wall of mountains towering thousands of feet into the air almost straight up! We zigzagged under and through the mountains, staring in awe at their shear size and beauty.  It was like heading into the darkness of Mordor!!! (Lord of the Rings)

Glenwood Hot Springs. Outdoor geothermal pool.
After about 5 hours of driving through the mountains, we stopped at Glenwood Springs, Colorado, to go swimming in the naturally heated pools! The regular pool was probably around 85-90 degrees, while the smaller pool closer to the source was 104 degrees! Besides the smell of farts from the sulfur, it was such a crazy experience sitting in a 104 degree pool in the middle of the Rocky Mountains!  We stayed until about 2:30, then headed out towards Utah!

I-70, Glenwood Canyon
We crossed the border a couple of hours later and cruised on I-70 for a few more hours before we took a great shortcut on Route 6 on the road to Salt Lake City.

You snooze, you lose. Unless you're Eric... then you kind of win.
It was a relatively easy drive and the sunset was gorgeous.  We arrived in Salt Lake City at around 9pm to a VERY luxurious Hampton Inn!
End of I-70!
It was another successful day on the road and we can't wait to spend the day in Salt Lake and Park City, Utah tomorrow.  Goodnight!

  1. Great description of the road thru the Rockies. Any pictures of the Eisenhower Tunnel? Your breaking the long ride up at the Springs was a brilliant idea; no doubt, Tom's idea.

Anyone yet going to be a Bronco fan after that leg of the trip?
